Episode 4: Lagoon Seventy 7 Catamaran Closing in The Bahamas and The Miami Boat Show

Episode 4 of Sail Odyssey takes us on the adventurous journey to officially close on the Lagoon Seventy 7 that will become Odyssey. After years of searching and traveling to boat shows worldwide, we’re finally ready to make it ours.

With the boat flying a Jamaican flag, we must reposition Odyssey from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini, to legally complete the change of ownership. With the help of the current owner’s crew for the initial crossing and a temporary professional crew for the return, we prepare for a journey full of surprises.

But our travel plans hit a major snag. A misbooked flight lands us on the wrong Bahamian island, forcing a last-minute scramble involving a private plane, cash negotiations, and a bumpy ride. Despite the chaos, we finally arrive in Bimini just in time to meet our broker Wiley Sharp, enjoy a sunset champagne toast, and prepare for the big day.

The next morning, the pre-closing inspection confirms everything is in order. After signatures and final wire confirmations, Odyssey officially becomes ours. With the delivery crew on board and plans to sail her back to Fort Lauderdale underway, we shift our focus to outfitting and upgrading her to be the finest Lagoon Seventy 7 anywhere in the world.

What happens in this episode

After four years of searching, Eric and Megan are finally ready to close on the Lagoon 77 that will become Odyssey. Because the yacht isn't U.S. duty paid, the transaction has to take place outside U.S. waters, sending them to Bimini for the long-awaited change of ownership.

Getting there proves to be an adventure of its own. A booking mishap lands them in Freeport, nearly 70 miles from Bimini, forcing them to track down a private pilot and make the crossing in a decidedly questionable-looking little plane. They eventually arrive safely and celebrate their last evening before closing with a sunset boat ride and champagne.

The next morning, signatures are completed, funds are confirmed, and Odyssey officially becomes theirs. With a decades-long dream finally realized, attention quickly turns to what comes next: returning the yacht to Fort Lauderdale, completing an extensive list of upgrades and repairs, and outfitting their new home on the water at the Miami Boat Show.
